In recent years the town of Canmore Alberta has progressed from being a service town on the edge of Banff National Park and has now become a destination in its own right. As well as providing a good base for both Banff National Park and Kananaskis Country, Canmore visitors enjoy the laid back atmosphere, eclectic shopping, and trendy downtown cafes and restaurants.

Being so close to Banff, many of the Banff tours will also appeal to anyone staying in Canmore, and it is likely that you will want to discover Banff National Park, either on an organized tour or under your own steam. A long time favorite for locals, Kananaskis Country is another option for superb Canadian Rockies scenery, hiking, mountain biking and camping.
There are some fantastic helicopter sightseeing tours that take off from Canmore, and the selection of golf courses is as fine as in any mountain resort.
The Alpine Club of Canada is based in Canmore, and rock climbing, mountaineering, ice climbing and backcountry skiing are all very popular activities among local residents. Newcomers to the area may be interested in hiring a mountain guide or taking one of the many excellent courses on offer.
Canmore is conveniently located for all 3 Banff National Park ski resorts to the west, and the lesser known Nakiska Ski Resort is just 30 minutes to the east.
